GMPETE Posted October 19, 2015 Share #78 Posted October 19, 2015 That is one amazing group. It is like he just walked off one of the islands, locked everything up and lost the key. Really incredible for its completeness, and how fresh it all looks. You can almost smell the cordite and salt. Thanks for posting. There are a few small personal memoirs published by men from the 14th Marines whose experiences would have closely paralleled those of your Marine. Neither were 3rd Battalion, but one was also an FO (which from a quick glance at your docs looks like your man may have been on Iwo?) Stepping Stones Across the Pacific by Tibor Torok 4/14 My War by Dewey Columbus Pickard Jr. 5/14 (4th 105mm How. Bn.) Both are available on Amazon and are inexpensive. Torok was in the Marshalls, Marianas, and Iwo, and Pickard made the Marianas and Iwo. Lot of specific info about what it was like actually being there from men in that specific regiment. There are some other resources as well I would be happy to share. PM me if interested.

A very humbling insight into the Marines daily life on the front line. I recommend to all with an interest in the combat operations in the Pacific. MCDUFF Posted August 18, 2016 Author Share #87 Posted August 18, 2016 A fellow forum member suggested copying the yardlong photo to use the names for future reference. I am struggling to find a company to do this, so have taken some photos of sections and posted here. Maybe useful for someones research in the future? They have been downsized to load here. Please PM me if larger scale photos are needed. It is of the officers of the 3rd Bn 14th Marines, 4th Div taken at Camp Pendelton in December 1943.
