irish Posted February 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2014 While digging through boxes and bags getting ready for SOS I ran across this item that had been put away 10 to 15 years ago. I had received this from a retired Colonel who had served with SOG in a non combat role. We had become acquainted through another field of collecting and he knew my interest in military so he sent it to me. I have photoed the letter he sent with it for a description of it. Interesting piece of history. One thing he told me over the phone was that the poor old North Vietnamese fisherman whom they captured was so scared he could hardly speak. He and his boat were returned to the point of capture within 24 hours, no harm done. Also the only insignia other than his rank worn was this MACV pocket hanger. zotig111 Posted February 20, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2014 Now that is a cool bringback! It's pretty cool that he provided you with the details on how he came about "capturing" it. Thanks for posting.

TrenchfootJoe66 Posted April 6, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 6, 2014 I wonder if that North Vietnamese fella was taken to one of those spots that SOG ran. I know they frequently took captured fisherman to locations in S. Vietnam and then made out like they were in "liberated zones" in N Vietnam. I think this activity was associated with The Scared Swords of the Patriot League or some such craziness. All part of the Psywar effort, like Operation Ooddles etc.
thefallenbuddha Posted April 8, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 8, 2014 Wow! Great item with a story!! In Japan, "in the old days" fisherman used to use (and some old fellows still do) similar style containers for food and other things.
