kanemono Posted February 6, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2014 Here is a Civil War roll up desk identified to Frederick G. Ellison. Ellison was a 20 year-old Farmer from Bellmont MA. He enlisted on 8/29/1862 as a Private. On O9/12/1862 he mustered into "G" Co. Mass. VM He was Mustered out on 6/18/1863 at Readville, MA. On 8/29/1864 he mustered into "M" Co. Mass. 3rd Heavy Artillery. He was Mustered Out on 6/17/1865. There is an original packet of dry ink with the desk. Dick

kanemono Posted February 7, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted February 7, 2014 Thanks for the comments. These roll up desks are not common but also not rare. What makes this desk desirable is the fact that it is identified and also way it is identified with Ellison's stencil. All of his belongings would have been marked in this manner. I don't know how common the ink packets are but I was told they make a horrible mess if they are accidentally broken open. The image is not marked but I found it on the Civil Wat Database website with Ellison's information. Dick.
