Proud Kraut Posted February 2, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2014 I would like to ask our forum members to give us a heads-up on what's new in the modeler's world from now on. Every scale is welcome. According to our forum rules we will limit the posts to: Model kits of U.S. military vehicles, planes, ships etc. or neutral/common accessories. Thanks for your input in advance! Lars
Proud Kraut Posted February 2, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted February 2, 2014 Here we go with a newly released equipment kit by MENG: "Equipment for Modern U.S. Military vehicle" - Scale: 1/35 http://www.modellbau-universe.de/produkt;Equipment-for-modern-U-S-Military-vehicle;MEN~SPS014;6;1;5;1.htm?trackIDN=7750ca3559e5b8e1f44210283368fc16&trackIDE=7f830ad4b1bf1e466b3a15b7efcb932b At the first glance a rather "civilian" set of accessories. Can someone enlighten me regarding the aloy wheels and these red boxes? Regards Lars
gwb123 Posted February 3, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 3, 2014 The red boxes look like coolers, containers to keep food and beverages cold. The round circles probably represent cup holders that are built into the lids of some of them. Alloy wheels... for a civilianized HUMV perhaps? I'm looking forward to see these Normandy 1944 U.S. Horsemen. Seems to be a real spectacular set. http://www.miniart-models.com/index.htm?/35151.htm
Cobrahistorian Posted February 17, 2014 Share #8 Posted February 17, 2014 I just did the MiniArt winter 1944 US tank crew. Other than their heads, the figures are great. I didn't like the way the multiple layers of paint went on them, so I'm getting resin heads to replace them. The Dragon Black Label series looks like it is going to be quite interesting. With the M103A1 and the M6 heavy tank, we're getting some really obscure subjects! Jon

aef1917 Posted February 19, 2014 Share #10 Posted February 19, 2014 Paper Panzers and obscure prototypes as far as the eye can see, and yet we still don't have a decent Mark I, Mark IV, Mark V, Medium Mark A, Schneider CA or A7V. At least Meng and Takom have stepped up and produced some nice WWI armor lately.

mpguy80/08 Posted March 17, 2014 Share #15 Posted March 17, 2014 Bronco has been releasing a lot of good kits too... Their jeeps are arguably the best on the market and include openable tool bins, optional parts to turn the wheels left, right or straight, optional windshields and such. Their M24 Chaffee is simply amazing for the amount of detail they've added. It makes the old Italeri Chaffee look like a toy. I also agree with the opinion about MiniArt's US tank crew kits. There are three that I have that supply a total of 15 tankers in varied uniform combinations including HBTs, HBT Coveralls, wools, and winter combat dress, tanker jackets, tanker bibs, shoepacs and mackinaw coat. I'd like to see Meng's FT-17 done as a US FT-17 during the First World War, along with a Colonel Patton figure from the well known photo. Needless to say, it is good times we live in for detailed models...

mpguy80/08 Posted April 23, 2014 Share #21 Posted April 23, 2014 The FT-17 was known as the M-1917 in US service. A Lt. Colonel who would become the most well known advocate of armored warfare in the US during WWII, led the US tank force in WWI. His name? Lieutenant Colonel George Smith Patton Jr. I'm looking at the Meng offering in 1/35th scale. Reviews say it has a complete interior. I'd like to find a figure of Patton from WWI to re-create the well known photo of him standing next to an M1917.

I know this picture very well. I did a little online research but did not find any WW I U.S. Army figure in 1/35 that comes close to the young Patton. Sounds funny, but maybe a mix of the "upper half" of Mr. Stalin from this set... http://www.ebay.de/itm/ICM-35621-1-35-SOVIET-MILITARY-SERVICEWOMEN-1939-1942-/400695951203 ...with closed collar uniform with shoulder belt and the "lower half" of Hauptmann Schmidt from this set... http://www.ebay.de/itm/ICM-35611-1-35-WW-II-GERMAN-STAFF-PERSONNEL-/350976395401 with four pocket tunic, riding pants and the boots will do. The only other thing I could think of is maybe doing a WWII Patton with all the tanks and vehicles he was known to have commanded. M1917, M1/M2 Combat Car, M3 Stuart, M20 Armored car, M3 Halftrack, M3 Scout Car, Jeeps, WC-56/57 Command Cars... Hobby Boss has a really good M3 Scout car... AFV Club has the Ex Skybow WC-56/57, Dragon has the best M3 Half Track. I'm a member of a Patton Living History Group that's based in Texas and might even be able to come up with good references for the CCKW command van that was built for Patton.
