US Civil War Officer's Overcoat Cape?

I'd like your opinion on this item. I believe it is a Civil War Officer's cape re-purposed as a post office cape. It came out of a trunk in PA. All the buttons are 1880's or later US Post Office Buttons (POD). There are eyes on the neck of the cape for attachment to something. There was a cadet gray POD cape authorized after the Civil War, but I did not see anything in its description about eyes for attaching to a uniform. The button holes are hand done. The rest is machine sewn, and the thread is the faded brown vegetable dye seen often in CW-era uniforms. What are your thoughts?

What company names are on the buttons, pls include stars, dots, etc used in backmarks, your pics are out of focus. In the future post pics here, otherwise this thread is completely useless to those who view in the future and sucks up space on the forum servers.

I think I have seen this on ebay before. It looks like a typical late indian war detachable cape for the M-1884 U.S. Army Great Coat (for enlisted ranks). Cut and color looks similar as is the weave and liner (for infantry). Buttons were tore off at one time and replaced with a mix. The mole hair trim could have been added. Probably came from a theater company or department. Often such garments exhibit heavy alterations.

Just my thoughts.....
