The EGA's of Peter Pace

We discussed this once, found a couple of photos. General Pace (Ret) is/was evidently an EGA enthusiast, and was known to wear vintage EGA's often. I found a couple definitive images on the Net, if you have any more feel free to add them.

First, an official portrait in service alphas, with H&H Imperial style WWII collar emblems

And second, in his dress blues, appears to be a pair of H&H Viking Korean Era by the shine, where he added fouled ropes to the anchors, probably so they wouldn't stand out as much. General Pace often wore current emblems when at really high functions, such as in the presence of the President

I would have loved to have been able to do this while I was in. Being an enlisted ground pounder, I probably would have had my face knocked in. But then again, I would have been torn since I didn't earn that style and someone else had worn them and earned them before me.

I met Gen Pace at an event in Washing ton DC, while escorting an Iwo Jima Veteran. I asked him about the Emblems and he said they were a gift from his Family (Kids I think). He said he liked them "and besides who was going to tell me I can't wear them".

Didn't talk for to long, but he seemed like a real nice Guy.

Hmmmm that is definitely cool! I wonder if there is anything in the uniform regs that would prevent someone from doing this? Obviously (Like he said) no one was going to say anything to HIM, but I wonder if your everyday NCO could get away with it... I assume not!

For a fun experiment, when I worked on the ranges on Parris Island, I decided to see just how good the attention to detail was with DI's and such, and rocked a WWII cover emblem painted flat black on my campaign cover for about a year and a half. Had a few recruits notice there was something different, a couple of SDI's who wanted to buy one to wear themselves, but the people I dealt with the most as RSO were Company Gunnys and above...and no one ever noticed, or at least said anything to me about it

Wow thats cool! I always wondered if anyone (especially the higher ups) wore anything vintage.

Thanks for sharing!

This does say it all when you are sporting 4 stars!

.

He said he liked them "and besides who was going to tell me I can't wear them"

Oh the life of the upper echelon!!!!!

It is great that he is wearing them. It does tie us into our past traditions and honors those that have come before us. .

So Brig, were you a PMI or just the RSO?????

Have to be PMI certified down there to be the RSO. I never pushed platoons as a PMI. They offered to send me to section numerous times, but I declined. 85% of a PMI's FITREP at the time was based on stats, so some shady stuff would go on from time to time. I felt I was doing more good for the Corps by staying RSO and maintaining integrity of the program...keeping instructors off the line qual day, cheat checks, drinking dangerous quantities of Reveille brand coffee, etc

I can't speak for the Marine Corps, but one of my old squad leaders in the Army wears his Dad's Sterling CIB from Korea on his Class A. My old platoon sergeant wanted me to find him a sterling CMB to wear in his class As but I never found one in decent enough condition and for the right price before he retired.

Not sure if I'm seeing it wrong but is he sporting all the DSMs???

Yes, he holds every branch's Distinguished Service Medal. It is common for the Chairman of the JCS to receive the DSM from each branch of service as well as from the DOD for a successful tour as the CJCS
