HBT Posted January 5, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 5, 2007 I found this jungle jacket in a rag mill years ago. It has sandwiched, Japanese-made 173rd Airborne SSIs. The Army / name tapes, CIB, and Jump Wings are Vietnamese made. I beat the brush pretty hard, but I've never been able to find Littleton on a site, roster, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. HBT Posted January 5, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 5, 2007 Here is a 1st pattern set named to an early Special Forces vet. MSG Henry T. Czerniak was the team SGT at Camp A1-214A Plei Djereng, Pleiku Province (Le Thanh District) from 06/1964 to 12/1964. He was TDY from 1st GP on that tour and more than likely would have used this 1963 dated set during that time.
Patrick. Posted January 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 8, 2007 Here is a 2nd model jungle jacket, worn here with a locally made "ascot" scarf. The jungle jacket went through a series of revisions as the war progressed.
Patrick. Posted January 8, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 8, 2007 As mentioned, the 2nd model had a series of refinements as the uniform evolved. This particular example, to a member of the 173rd, is one of those variants. It is made from cotton poplin (not the later rip-stop material) and has a small yet vital detail that the 3rd model also lacks. This version has two pen pockets, one behind each chest cargo pocket. the 3rd model jacket can be found in rip-stop and has just one pen pocket. The equipment carried is M56 with the earlier version ammo pouches with the grommet on the pull tab.
Patrick. Posted January 8, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 8, 2007 Here is an example of the 3rd model jungle jacket. This time to a member of the 25th Infantry Division. He is wearing an ARVN rucksack and carries a LAW for bunker busting.
Patrick. Posted January 8, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 8, 2007 A further look at the rucksack and LAW.
Patrick. Posted January 8, 2007 Share #11 Posted January 8, 2007 The SSI. This shot shows the rip-stop fabric also.

usmc-collector Posted January 21, 2007 Share #13 Posted January 21, 2007 First pattern Tropical Combat Uniform. I think it was used by the USMC because the coat has owner's name stenciled above pocket. This practice can be documented on many USMC utility coats and shirts from this era. Coat 1963 dated, pants 1964 dated. Named to Ryder F. M. Nice matching set. usmc-collector Posted January 21, 2007 Share #15 Posted January 21, 2007 I just found on the internet that LCpl. RYDER F. M. was a member of 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines, India Co. in 1965 in Vietnam. http://www.duprel.com/usmcgeocitiespaid/bnlistwebpage1.htm Mr. Jaroslav Jochman3/6 Marines, King Co., Re-Enacted, 1943-1945;USMC & USN REENACTORS ASSOCIATIONMARINE CORPS ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION MEMBER

VALERY Posted January 31, 2007 Share #19 Posted January 31, 2007 The first jacket belonged to LCL Picou, who was during the first part of his second tour, the 101st Divisional Artillery Chief. I've added two plaques that I could obtain from different dealers. All his souvenirs have been sprayed all over by a dealer and I try to regroup it. The second belonged to soldier assigned to Ivy division PIO.
Patrick. Posted January 31, 2007 Share #20 Posted January 31, 2007 The PIO is the first I have seen applied to a jacket. Do you know what other items are in the Picou grouping? Vietnam collectors are a fairly small circle, I am sure we would come across some of them at some point?
VALERY Posted January 31, 2007 Share #21 Posted January 31, 2007 I know that in Picou's grouping were guidons, 101st yearbooks signed by other fellow officers, plaques, perhaps more uniforms. I've have discovered that his 101st Class A've been transformed by an unscrupulous eBay dealer to an infantry LTC fully badged (it's true you're more chance to have a good price with an infantry officer than a red leg. BOS've been changed and wonderful insignias appeared like pathinder, master para etc. It has Picou's name in an interior pocket.
Patrick. Posted February 1, 2007 Share #22 Posted February 1, 2007 Here is my favourite US jacket. This example is badged to an LT in the First Infantry Division, to be precise the second Batallion "black Lions". It came with a nice bonus piece I will show at the end. I have been lucky enough to have been offered an ERDL companion jacket to the 1st Batallion which I am about to finalise.
