dpcsdan Posted March 3, 2016 Author Share #178 Posted March 3, 2016 Thanks Dan,and yes its a nice one,Jay Looks like the USS Thor badge was produced and worn between 1956 and 1973, and the USS Thomas was classified a DD from 1962-72. This USS Rigel badge is likely Rigel (AF-58) 1975-92, not the earlier USS Rigel (AD-13), decommissioned in 1946. -dan

firefighter Posted May 7, 2016 Share #180 Posted May 7, 2016 A while back, post #64, Dpcsdan posted some of my badges for me. The TASP badge has an unusual attachment device, alligator clip. Under it you can see the maker mark and Gov't Property stamp. ^ Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Wedgehead30 Posted August 7, 2016 Share #197 Posted August 7, 2016 Here's one I picked up recently. The ship was commissioned in 1941 and decommissioned in 1968. So that gives a pretty narrow timeframe on the age of the badge. I'm thinking it was used in the 1960 to 1968 timeframe given the Large Burgess pin catch. Jay V Posted August 7, 2016 Share #198 Posted August 7, 2016 Nice Badge!! I would try and clean the verdigris of the badge before it gets to bad.
Wedgehead30 Posted August 7, 2016 Share #199 Posted August 7, 2016 Nice Badge!! I would try and clean the verdigris of the badge before it gets to bad. Thanks, it is pretty cool. Normally if I was keeping it I would clean it up. But it will be sold so I'm going to sell it as is and let the new owner decide how to proceed. Salvage Sailor Posted August 7, 2016 Share #200 Posted August 7, 2016 Ahoy Dan, Though you might like to see one in contemporary use..... Chief Master at Arms (and First Class Diver) aboard USS GRAPPLE (ARS-7) Vietnam Cruise 1966-1967 The officer is the XO - both waiting for their prey on the Quarterdeck ....their victim? The next sailor to be posted to ships' Shore Patrol as a lesson to be learned
