Thanks for this thread. First badge I have seen and purchased this weekend is attached. Back of badge has no markings. Any way to find out who had this badge on the USS INDEPENDENCE? It was purchased in Fort Worth TEXAS this weekend.

Here is one to a man named Shirley (I have a small group of his items) who served with the 50th Seabees.

This one was made on Tinian.. I'm not sure if by him, other Seabees, or natives?

I have his photo album, and before Tinian, him and all his other MAA buddies wore badges that looked like old West sheriff stars.

Been awhile since I posted on this thread. There are so many awesome badges posted it is hard to remember them all. I especially like the hand made ones and I just received this one today. Navy Police NAS Cubi Point PI.

Here is the hand crafted back-side!! Badge is cracked on the upper side, but does not show on the front.

Thanks for the comments fellas!! You guys have some really great badges!!

Hey Senior Dan,

Your PI made badge is absolutely stunning. In fact, seeing yours was the driving factor in finding one myself!!

The Cubi badge also came with this PI made patch.

Nice. I have a PI local made in my collection.

I have a couple of DOD badges from Clark AB, PI made, but would love to add a Subic Bay or Cubi PT to my collection.I remember crossing over Cubi and see the sign, AIRCRAFT HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY.

Anyone know when the security unit patches became standard usage?

Senior,

I don't know if they ever were standard. The modern Navy uses badges extensively. The patches were used for "dirty work" uniforms, but mostly the modern Navy is still using badges.

i just realized you were asking about security forces. Those guys do usually wear a patch. I have seen badges still being used though. Here is a gate guard security type Sailor with the badge being worn. The second picture is a MAA wearing his badge.

Thank's for the input, guys. Someday I'll publish my fourth book, which will feature USN usage of law enforcement style badges.
