Pluto Posted January 23, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2014 Can anyone help me ID this please ? Came from a junk shop in London so no history. One knob a 1960s replacement. Typical US OD crackle-finish paint. Really heavy solid object, better for listening to Glen Miller V-Discs than military communications. Seems to be a faint orange-square signal/ordnance type stamp to back, otherwise I cannot see any markings. I plugged it in, it worked for about ten seconds, then it died... thanks Pluto
Bob Hudson Posted January 23, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2014 The Navy had a nearly identical model, the 6000 BAC. You are correct in that it was not designed for communications, but simply as something the troops could use to listen standard broadcast stations operating in the AM and shortwave bands. It's what they would have used to listen to Tokyo Rose for example.
12thengr Posted January 24, 2014 Share #3 Posted January 24, 2014 Cool radio. Is the back accessible so's we can have a peek at the innards? Something like this should only have a few vacuum tubes.
