BROBS Posted January 23, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2014 I was thinking it was from the summer jacket..? Though I am not sure. Am I correct that it is WW2 period? Any input is appreciated. thanks, Brian
History Man Posted January 23, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2014 Appears to be a wartime piece. When it comes to the jacket, this was a universal name patch for the flight jackets and flight suits. Philip
BROBS Posted January 23, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted January 23, 2014 Thanks for the info.. I guess looking at photos it seemed there were certain lettering styles on certain jackets, but probably just coincidence. -Brian
Stony Posted January 23, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2014 This is a universal name plate and would be worn on all types of Navy flight jackets and flight suits, whether they were winter or summer. Pretty much the same as a AAF leather name strip which was put on just about anything flight gear related.
KASTAUFFER Posted January 23, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 23, 2014 I would says its probably from the 1950's based on the font used for the name. It doesn't look like a WWII tag to me. Kurt
Fly USMC Posted January 23, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 23, 2014 My Guess would be post WWII
BROBS Posted January 23, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted January 23, 2014 The font to me looks like these tags in the WW2 jackets sticky... would these jackets be considered post war? (mainly the lower one.. looks at the "S" on the lower tag.) thanks, Brian
KASTAUFFER Posted January 23, 2014 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2014 I have owned both of those jackets. PK Will's tag has a different font and is WWII. Pressler's tag is post WWII I believe based on the rank on the tag. He didnt make LT until after WWII. He was a LT (JG ) when the war ended. BROBS Posted January 23, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted January 23, 2014 Ok thanks for the clarification... and I realize PK Will's tag was a little different, but posted as it was similar in font. So perhaps early postwar at best... maybe latewar if I'm lucky. Thanks for the help, Brian
