Very interesting! It looks like it will be more gentle on book bindings.

That was a key motivator. Back in November I bought a very large collection of military history books, some worth literally hundreds of dollars. Just propping them up for photo taking was a real pain, to say nothing of worrying about damage to the spines. And, if you've placed a book on a flatbed scanner you know there is a lot of stress on the spine and it's very hard to keep the pages flat.

Of course, scanners have high resolution, but I am really please with the results from using my iphone 5S in this scanner stand. Here's some examples of the images produced with this combination:

Are you selling the solution??

I bought mine on Amazon.com - I had looked at dedicated book scanners, but you pay about $250 and up 9way up) for those.

This thing is made from corrugated plastic covered with what they call a "micro suction" surface. (Insert "micro suction" jokes here..."

Bob,

Will a medium sized digital camera fit on the stand? This looks like a good option for over-sized photos, prints, etc. that won't fit on a standard scanner.

Here's a frame from the maker's video showing a digital camera being mounted:

A lot better than taking a chop saw to the spine of a book in order to scan all the pages (it's really messy, trust me...paper dust isn't as easy to clean up as wood shavings...) :D

Neat... I want one.... when I try to do it free hand it never works.

I would think with a rig like this proper lighting would be a factor.

It's actually very easy to light it: the photos I show were all done using an overhead ceiling light. A tall desk lamp also works well.
