hueytaxi Posted January 16, 2014 #1 Posted January 16, 2014 Somewhere I have lost the pants (no belt) and dark green knapsack to go with this. A nicely tailored shirt which seems to be faded from black or deep blue While this was picked up from a prisoner on the coast,it was cool weather and this insulated vest was with the detainee Inside, yellow is from a flash thst failed to fire The combination Following a grenade hitting the ground as a detained mama san jumped off our huey, future captives rode back with shirt around the wrists and pants around the ankles. This one resisted my CE's efforts and she had a cold ride back. Circa mid 1967, Bong Son plains, Binh Dinh Province, RVN.
badash5946 Posted January 16, 2014 #2 Posted January 16, 2014 Two really neat items - I love the cold weather vest (used a lot in the highlands. It's different than most I've seen. And while I have seen several blue uniforms (unfortunately had to sell mine) they weren't the type to fade. As I understand it, blue was usually worn by anti aircraft crews. I wish I was looking at yours in person - it is interesting.
badash5946 Posted January 16, 2014 #3 Posted January 16, 2014 Hueytaxi, you said that this is a NLF shirt, and is custom made, is that correct? How heavy is the material? Really curious, as the cut of it is definitely of the NVA regular style.

Really curious, as the cut of it is definitely of the NVA regular style. I'm no expert on origin. At the time I was told we captured 3 NLF scouts in a village. One was female, young and dressed much better than the two men. This was her uniform. Even in hand restraints, she bruised up my chief with a few kicks. They literally had to tie her into the jump seat to keep her in the huey. The material is quite light weight yet soft like fack chamois. I assume it to be cotton. I had lost it in a back closet for a long time and now wonder if my daughter found the pants many years ago. I know she was wearing the vest one time. I'll have to go through my slides again for I have a pic of one of the males. he was a little beat up around the face and I took the picture to show that is how we found him when turned over to us.
