The Holy Helmet

Without making any judgments on someone else's faith, I can only say this is a most unusual listing, made all the more unusual by the seller's writing.

Here's what the listing says:

"My wifes father fought in WW II at Quatacanal and his entire unit was wiped out in the landing on the beach. He was severly wounded and spent a year in a hospital for recovery. Since then he has passed away.We have found this helmet in our stored belongings and believe it to be his. When taking the pictures of it to put up for auction on Ebay my wife had noticed that there seamed to be an image of Jesus Christ on the insert of the helmet. She starred at it for quite awhile while crying, believing that God had created this image because of her fathers religious beliefs. This helmet and its insert are in vary good condition with minor rust and wear. Shipping to another country or overseas will be calculatedI reserve the write to withdraw this item (helmet) from Ebay at any time before the auction time has expires."

Here's the picture enlarged 200 percent (anyone have a clue about the writing on the liner???):

Is that like the "Holy Hand Grenade" from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (or Spamalot)?

Last time I looked, the beach landing at the Canal was virtually unopposed.

Do you remember the eBay seller who had a piece of cheesecake or french toast with face of the Holy Virgin or the face of The Lord himself on it ?

And the one who had his father walking stick haunted by his father nasty ghost... whistling.gif

The 1st Raiders along with 2/5 landed under heavy fire on Tulagi. Gavuta and Tanambogo were also hotly contested landings for the PM's. Later on Lt.Col. Frank Goettge landed west of the Lunga perimeter with 25 men looking for some Japanese who had offered to surrender. I think there were 2 or 3 survivors. So there were some really hot landings taking place just not on the main island.

From a professional standpoint(I'm a Pastor) it looks like rust stains. I hate this kind of stuff, anything else I would say would be preaching about stupidity so, I'll leave it alone.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Tulagi was DEFINITELY opposed. The main landing - which this seller seemed to be indicating - was not. It certainly got hot later, however.

It was a grilled cheese that sold on eBay for $25,000. Then the greedy woman tried to sell the frying pan for an additional $25,000, that didn't float.

I call this a bunch of bunk, if the wife was crying all day because the face of God was portrayed in the rust on the side of her father's helmet liner, then why is she selling it? Wouldn't that be "flying in the face of God"????

I agree with not buying the story, buy the helmet.... on second thought, I'll pass.

Good question - it is sort of like "I saw Jesus on my daddy's helmet and just knew this was a business opportunity."

By the way, I hope no one reading this thread construes it as making fun of Christianity: not the case at all - this is about a very off-the-wall "expression of religion" (for want of a better term) that is probably the antithesis of Biblical teachings.

Perhaps there was more fighting at this "Quatacanal"?

I am of the Christian faith, and I certainly do not take this as poking fun at Christianity. ;) God has a sense of humor (some of us are living proof of that) so why shouldn't we...

There were a number of items of a similar nature that all popped up in about a two year period.

To make the story even more bizarre, most of these were bid upon and won by a casino in the Carribean which was going to put them on display in some sort of pseudo-shrine.

It all kind of came to a peak when a less than serious seller offered a chicken nugget that supposedly bore a striking resemblence to Meg Whitman, then CEO of eBay.

You will note that there are a distinct lack of bids taking place on this item. Perhaps this craze has run out of steam? Or perhaps the Seller should have listed it another way to get more notice.

Personally, to me, it just looks like a stain caused by dampness and poor storage. And tell me if I am wrong, but has any one ever seen a number series on the back of a helmet liner like that on a real WWII item?

I do, however, believe that using the "image" of Jesus Christ for monetary gain (As in the case of this helmet), is blasphemy. Obviously the whole thing is bunk.... what a shame.

By the way, it's nice to see so many brothers in Christ here on the forum. Praise be...

There is that one bid and - this item listed twice. Here's the listing that has the bid : http://cgi.ebay.com/WW-II-US-Army-Original...emZ330235149148

Then it's here too:

Let me be clear, I am not offended by any of the forum members statements since all of them are true. I am offended by the person trying to profit from such garbage in the name of God!
