sheepy Posted January 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2014 Long story short, I got a decent deal on a vintage CA flag 8x12ft. currently is folded in a wood box. I needs to be somewhere protected but i don't know how for something that large? I know large long drawers would be nice but i dont have that kind of room. all help appreciated
doyler Posted January 13, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 13, 2014 I know some often store items in archival type boxes that museums use.THe material are acid free.I have heard of people also storing flags with cedar chips or balls to deter moths. Bob Hudson Posted January 13, 2014 Share #3 Posted January 13, 2014 Do get it out of the wood! Here's one type of acid free box: http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-15180/Storage-File-Boxes/15-x-12-x-10-Archival-Storage-File-Boxes Protection against moth and silverfish is must (we worry about moths and wool, but silverfish can be a big problem for stored textiles). Mr.Jerry Posted January 14, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 14, 2014 It's hard with a flag that size, but ideally roll it, with a sheet of unbleached muslin in between, folds will cause creases which can weaken the threads over time.
Shenkursk Posted January 14, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 14, 2014 Ditto what Jerry said. If completely flat is not an option, rolled on acid free material is the next best thing.
