Hello Gent's.

My uncle was attached to the 8th AF 384th Bomb Group, 545th Bomb Squadron at station 106 at Grafton Underwood. He was a Depot instrument tech who volunteered for flight duty. He flew as a top turret gunner then as a Togglier, then as a waist gunner then he found his spot as a tailgunner.

On April 13th 1944 on his 25th mission he was shot down on a mission to Schweinfurt Ball Bearing plants.

6 out of 7 B17's were shot down that day.

He was listed as MIA until his mother go this post card.

All mail for the Stalags went out of Stalag Luft 3 and that is how it is marked.

Thanks Kurt!

I have 2 more and also the Vmail from him while he was in Camp Lucky Strike explaining the march across Austria and how he would be home soon.

You can tell by what he is telling his mother that he didn't want her to worry . When he came home he only weighed 100 pounds and had shingles. I will post them soon

Whats interesting about this card is that a Stalag XIA card was used for 17B. I have examples just like this and they are all from the same couple of months. I bet the Germans ran out of cards at 17B and got some from XIA.

This is his 4th and final post card sent home from Stalag 17B. This one was sent to his sister and seems to have been censored. I would also like to correct my statement about how he returned home. He weighed 100 pounds and had rickets , not shingles as previously stated.

Last but not least. This is my Uncle's final message home. It not a Stalag post card but a Vmail sent from Camp Lucky Strike after he was liberated.
