Terry K. Posted January 12, 2014 #1 Posted January 12, 2014 I picked this up yesterday. I think it is a mine sweeper but cannot see any identifying features as to which ship it is. Anyone know?
RustyCanteen Posted January 12, 2014 #2 Posted January 12, 2014 It is an ocean going tugboat for sure, and I want to say Abnaki class. RC
Salvage Sailor Posted January 12, 2014 #3 Posted January 12, 2014 Close, She's a Fleet Tug, but an AT Navajo Class, not ATF Abnaki Class. She has a full stack and the lower portholes in the hull indicative of the earlier design of the pre-war class. They were all designated later as ATF's Your photo is of the class leader, USS NAVAJO (AT-64) on builders trials (note there is no hull number). Here's another shot from the same official USN photo set
Terry K. Posted January 12, 2014 Author #4 Posted January 12, 2014 Thanks RustyCanteen & Salvage Sailor!! I can't believe someone knew what ship it was so fast. Terry
Wharfmaster Posted January 14, 2014 #5 Posted January 14, 2014 Fine looking vessel indeed. I have a WW2 medal group to a skipper of a tug of this class. W
