A friend picked this up at the local flea market today.Appears to be a forward facing black cat or panther.THe base material is a white naugahyde type material.Im thinking it a Navy patch but thats a guess.Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a Navy patch to me too. During WWII quite a few USN squadron patches were decals, stenciled, or painted on USN Canvas material.

Thanks Kurt.

I have a couple of the Navy and marine ones on Canvas. One is more like a linen material.I have a USMC "Death Rattlers" which is a decal.

Johnny Signor

You probably already know but "VB" was "Bombing Sqd" ,VBF was Bombing Fighting Sqd" (Sometimes reversed Fighting Bombing Sqd) Usually the bombing Sqd had TBM and or SBD sometimes the Helldiver too, the VBF's had a mixture of F4F/F6F and then sometimes TBM/SBD's too

I am assuming that all the officers in the photo are pilots.

Interesting to note is that not all of them are wearing wings.

Does anyone know who the man is with the bandaged head ?

That's a cool photograph.
