manayunkman Posted January 12, 2014 Share #9 Posted January 12, 2014 You have 4 variations of the 506th DI ? Those 2 with relief I've never seen before. Was this all from the same person ? Might he have been in the 18th after the war ? I don't know what to say about this it is so incredible.
88thcollector Posted January 12, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted January 12, 2014 yes, same person, well documented, straight from the family. I will figure out the 18th connection.
firefighter Posted January 12, 2014 Share #11 Posted January 12, 2014 HOLY CRAP!! That is an amazing grouping. The officer infantry pin looks to have '506' which makes sense. Those British id's are very cool and never seen the light blue one before.Couple of nice white tongue 101st patches to.Can we see the back of the patches.Looks like he was with the 506th from the beginning, GHQ patch. doyler Posted January 12, 2014 Share #12 Posted January 12, 2014 Great group 88th. The 18th Infantry Regiment was part of the 1st Division.Im guessing he may have been with the 18th prior to joining the 506th when state side early in the war.I have a group to a 50th PIR surgeon who was a member of another unit after his initial entry at Ft.Snelling Minnesota. He then volunteered for the paratroops and assigned to the 508th. Looks like the ones in relief are actually ones that were never finnished with the inlay of enamel.
firefighter Posted January 12, 2014 Share #14 Posted January 12, 2014 With all of those parachutes it looks like you had your own little assault by air.One of them looks theater made and one looks oversized and fully embroidered.
