sgtbarnes44 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #70 Posted January 3, 2011 When you look at the advertising pic,you can see that you cannot unscrew it too make it longer, but it's very interesting to see your model dated that can unscrew(I guess it's for making vision sharper  ),so there were certainly some fabricants of scopes   Hi, it's not a M49 but a M4 telescope (identical to the M48 - only difference between a M4 and M48 is the number 8 stamped after the 4 of M4 on the data plate) and the sliding part is a sliding sunshade. Cordially and Happy new year to all. JC
sgtbarnes44 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #71 Posted January 3, 2011 Your telescope is a M49, the one I'm showing is a M4.

sgtbarnes44 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #74 Posted January 3, 2011 This is the only difference I've found between a M4 and a M48 telescope, the number 8 stamped after the 4 of M4 on the data plate. I guess it's just for avoiding errors when asking for spare or repairs parts with others M4 named parts. (hope my english in understandable)
sgtbarnes44 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #75 Posted January 3, 2011 This is how you can recognize a WW2 era made telescope from a post war overhauled one: WW2 era 100% crinkled olive drab paint:
