USMC-RECON0321 Posted January 11, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2014 Don't normally care for these, but this one caught my attention at a local show and thought it would be fun to display as a conversation piece. Sabrejet Posted January 11, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 11, 2014 I think that's pretty cool Troy. I'd have no problem displaying that on one of my shelves! Is it just a shell or was it complete with a liner? "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!" DwightPruitt Posted January 11, 2014 Share #13 Posted January 11, 2014 The painting of the trooper in the mackinaw reminds me of James Whitmore's character in the movie Battleground Judges 1:19- And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron. USMC-RECON0321 Posted January 12, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted January 12, 2014 Thanks for the comments guys. Troy,Didn't notice this at the show until now, but looks like he even painted a burlap or camo covered helmet on the left side. This was a neat find!Mike Mike, that was the same thing I was thinking; looks like a burlap covered helmet on the one guy. Nice pickup Troy. Was this at Toledo? No. Picked this up at the last Novi show in Michigan. The painting of the trooper in the mackinaw reminds me of James Whitmore's character in the movie Battleground I'll have to look that up. They style of the characters on the helmet remind me of Bill Mauldin's war-weary, unshaven Willie and Joe...the quintessential WWII G. I. Joes.
