Equally probable: an MP Investigator or a CID Agent. Hair is a little long though for either of those positions, given the era.

I found an interesting pic in the web of a 287th MP which wears a "Checkpoint Bravo Brassard". I knew  Checkpoint Bravo which was "Dreilinden Border Crossing" - but I didn't knew they had their own Brassard - that was absolut new to me. Great !!
