AZPhil Posted January 7, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2014 Hello To All, I was wondering if somebody could give me the time frame that flight goggles #1065 were used? Thanks Semper Fi Phil
Sabrejet Posted January 8, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 8, 2014 There was an interesting thread on this very subject about a year or so ago. Probably still there in the forum's archives if you entered a key-word and did a trawl? The 1065s were a private commercial venture by Polaroid. The military recognized their potential as a superior aviation goggle and standardized them as Type B-8s in October '43 and mass-production began. Both types were used by the USAAF. They were essentially similar except for the molded patent markings on the rubber frame and the different straps. 1065s had grey elastic straps with a double buckle arrangement, whilst B8s had simplified OD straps. Both types were used concurrently with 1065s being available first some time in 1943.
