Just before I left the Wilson, they started carrying this style of patch in the ships store. Don't know why the change. Liked the older one better, but got one of these any way.

.....and her first emblem (can't find the patch just now, but here's the plaque) She originally had a Poseidon emblem but it was changed to reflect her new coat of arms and motto, "Pride, Power, Knowledge" in reference to Admiral Stephen B. Luce, founder of the Naval War College and the Naval Institute Press.

High Flight

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silver wings;

Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there

I've chased the shouting wind along and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long delirious, burning blue

I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,

where never lark, or even eagle flew;

and while, with silent, lifting mind I've trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

This is a USS Farragut "Plate". It is 2 inches, stamped brass and painted. It was at one time attached with glue to a plaque of some sort. I did not have the plaque, just this plate, so have no idea where it orriginally came from except the Farragut.
