Fromthepastcollections Posted November 13, 2022 #51 Posted November 13, 2022 I have a large group to a sergeant major Walter E Fletcher with over 200 of the regional/national match medals and a ton of other miscellaneous locations and competitions. Now the thing that im hoping someone can help me with is locating his distinguished rifle and pistol badges as they were sold off sometime before I got the group. If anyone has any info please reach out and enjoy the photos!
kfields Posted November 20, 2022 #52 Posted November 20, 2022 Here are a group of seven shooting competition medals awarded to Byrle Williby. All are engraved to B. Williby and dates from 1929 - 1939. I don't think I ever really displayed these very well in the past so so here goes. The Dogtags belonged to his brother (Army officer) so I included them in the shadow box displays: unfortunately no 14K gold-Haha!
SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted November 22, 2022 #54 Posted November 22, 2022 Great grouping Kim! Let me know when it needs a new home hahaha

kfields Posted October 12, 2025 #60 Posted October 12, 2025 That's pretty cool! You and I probably have one of the few surviving medals from that year! 19 hours ago, aactionjim said: I knew I had a medal the same year as yours,

kfields Posted October 26, 2025 #66 Posted October 26, 2025 Yeah that's probably one reason why the group only cost me $600 - no gold! 😂 Seriously though I wonder if financial issues related to the Great Depression was a cause of making the medal out of a less valuable metal. 5 hours ago, aactionjim said: I was looking at your distinguished for Williby and it's marked bronze. The story I got was back in the day when the military guys were wearing the gold medals certain assholes would start a fight and when it would get going they would snatch the medals and run. So a lot of the guys would have them made out of bronze and wear those and not worry about losing the real gold. I have a few that are not even marked but are 18K,
AndySchutz Posted February 22 #69 Posted February 22 Ray was my first instructor for a rifle, many years ago, I would be very interested in buying his medals as well as any Providence that it comes with.
