I was very fortunate today to be invited by officials of the Wingtip-to-Wingtip Association to attend the unveiling of their float at the Tournament of Roses Parade dedicated to the Women Air-Force Service Pilots of World War II. In attendance were sixteen original WASP's (all 91 years of age or older).

On New Years Day, eight of those WASP's will ride atop the float and represent the 1,102 WASP who earned their wings and proudly served their country.

Here's a partial list of the WASP's in attendance today:

Alyce Rohrer (Class 44-W-4)

Flora Bell Reece (Class 44-W-4)

Margot DeMoss (Class 44-W-5)

Shirley Kruse (Class 44-W-6)

Marty Wyall (Class 44-W-10)

Lois Bristol Young (Class 44-W-3)

Virginia Lee Doerr (Class 44-W-3)

Florence Mascot (Class 44-W-10)

A.J. May Starr (Class 43-W-4)

Adeline Ellison (Class 43-W-6)

Betty Strohfus (Class 44-W-1)

Alma Fornal (Class 44-W-5)

Millicent Young (Class 44-W-10)

(Here's some photos of the float and the WASP's inside the warehouse. Keep in mind there's still work to be done and flowers to be added before you see the final product tomorrow morning).

The WASP escorts are all female Pilots and accomplished Flight Personnel in their own right.

I'll list their names and titles, along with a few more images tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

Russ

Simply amazing pictures! I am so jealous you were able to meet them. I am sure it was a once in a lifetime experience. They do look like they are in great shape for their age. You are right that their bodies may be failing but you can still see excitement in their eyes. I can't wait to see the float in the morning.

Thank you so very much for posting all of these pictures. I loved every one of them....Kat

Surely an emotional moment to be with these fine ladies.

When I look at them I can still see the fire in their eyes and they are young again.

Thank you for sharing this celebration of women of worth.

Happy New Year to all and put on your seat belts.
