I haven't looked at this page in a while. There are some amazing insignia. The matching 8th CAVS are gorgeous.I also like the 509th field jacket. Why the large American flag, was it for some sort of border guard unit?

No, it was worn by 1st Bn (ABN), 509th INF Battalion Combat Team while attached to SETAF

This is a late 50s foto of future third CIB holder Sergeant Walther E. Berhow 1st Battle Group 31st Infantry, 7th Infantry Division, South Korea, note one and all the very oversized embroidered 31st Infantry loops.

7th Cav DIs on the forest green tabs. These tabs have snaps instead of being one continuous loop.

Superb.

I would venture these were when the this unit was in West Germany as a part of the 4th Armored Division in the mid 50s into the 60s (4th Armored Division Reflagged as 1st Armored Division May 1971 in West Germany)

Maybe.

1st Battalion, 51st infantry was part of 1st Armored Division until June of 1984 when it was deactivated. Alpha, Bravo and Charlie companies reflagged to Delta companies in three different battalions in 1 AD.

So maybe from 70's early 80's.

Generally the fashion of wearing these type of Leadership Loops with embroidered DIs on them died out in the 60s, it was probably rendered unauthorized on the unit level.

Here are some of my cloth Engineer DUIs that either embroidered on Leadership loops or embroidered on cloth.  Note that the 11th Engineer Battalion is on AG material, Korean made.  The last one is an unusual one with only the red and white braid on the edges.  It does not have any holes that would indicate a DUI was used.

Those are all incredible examples you posted, thanks for adding them

This one on Cotton Sateen, the Engineer one (which was battalion this again??) was probably supposed to be trimmed and used a Mini of the type sewn to Branch Scarfs, or if not then like the other one on Sateen (No ID on unit?), sewn by the looks of it on a modified fatigue shirt with shoulder loops.

This one's interesting, a 1950s pre 1958 one for Engineers we should think as a first guess, as it uses the garrison cap piping, the metal DI pinned to them when worn.

The one on the cotton sateen is the 10th Engineer Battalion, which was located in Germany at the time this was made.

Yes of course, thank you, 10th Eng Bn 3rd Inf Div.

Here is a Korean era 61st Field Artillery DUI. It is silk and bullion on a khaki look for use on a shirt. I think it might be one of the less common 1st Cavalry DUI to see on a theater made loop.
