Post your patches and items for Groups, Squadrons, Divisions, Flotilla, Development, etc

Including but not limited to SUBRON, SUBGRU, SUBDIV, SUBFLOT, SUBDEV, SUB BASE, SUB TENDERS (Flagships)...........

 

SUBRON 3, SUBDIV 32 - Submarine Division 32 with their assigned ASR Submarine Rescue ship and Rescue Chamber (Diving Bell)

COMSUBRON SIX Flagship USS ORION (AS-18) Submarine Tender - Commander Submarine Squadron Six embarked aboard

Patch circa 1945 to 1949

 

ORION joined the Atlantic Fleet on 15 September 1945 and was stationed at Balboa, Canal Zone, Panama, where she began her new assignment as the tender for Submarine Squadron SIX until May 1949, when she departed Panama for a homeport of Norfolk, Virginia - Ship's History, USS ORION Change of Command booklet

Current SUBRON 3 patch, Submarine Squadron Three, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

 

How do you identify them when there is no wording on the patch?

  • In general terms (there are always exceptions), if you see a pennant or number in BLUE or a Roman Numeral, it's a Submarine Squadron as shown in this example.
  • If you see a pennant or number in RED, it's a Submarine Division as shown in the first post (Submarine Division 32).
  • The first number is the Squadron (3) and the second number is the Division 3(2). i.e. SUBDIV 32 (voiced as 'three-two', the Second Division of SUBRON THREE)
  • For Squadrons and Groups, (NOT Divisions) Odd numbers are Pacific Fleet units, Even numbers are Atlantic Fleet units.
