cgutierrez Posted December 29, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2013 Hello, This is a P-38 and rig that my father brought back from WWII. He once told me that he acquired it from a German Officer. Also pictured is a pic of the original capture document that, as you can see, was not kept very well. The top reads "A Company, 27th Armored Infantry Battalion" which was part of Combat Command B of the 9th Armored Division. The pistol is stamped "byf43" which I believe stands for Mauser manufactured in 1943. The serial # is 9966a. I know almost nothing about German arms used during WWII and really don't have much interest so if anybody knows if the serial number can be traced to a certain month I would very much appreciate it. dhcoleterracina Posted December 29, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 29, 2013 Nice P-38, looks like a Luger holster.
doyler Posted December 29, 2013 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2013 Nice looking rig Looks like an officers belt as it has the open face buckle. I think the small (a) after the serial number is the block number. You may be able to narrow it down a bit by that.
m1ashooter Posted December 29, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 29, 2013 Nice pistol. I thought from P-38 I was going to see and airplane. I bet this site can help. http://forums.p38forum.com/index.htm

gomorgan Posted December 30, 2013 Share #6 Posted December 30, 2013 That's a hard shell P-38 holster not a Luger, yes the belt is great to.

cgutierrez Posted December 30, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted December 30, 2013 Thanks for all the comments and observations. From a brief venture into the P-38 pistol reference links provided it appears that the pistol was made early in 1943 as the "a" would indicate first block production.
