Bearmon, that is not a Shangri-La COMM Div patch! It is a Signals Division patch, For the Signalmen. On carriers, the Communications department is divided into separate divisions, CS for signal bridge, CR for radio receivers and CT for radio transmitters (CR & CT Divisions are made up of Radiomen). So, the scope of this patch is even smaller than if it had been for the entire Communications Department. As a retired Signalman, this is a really cool patch. Also, my Father was serving aboard Shangri-La when was borne

Great Cruise patches so far. I would like to add this 6 inch Japanese made Far East Cruise patch. It has written on tape on the back USS Frank Evans DD-754

Hello All:

New member here. I collect Korean War Era patches and insignia. I have question about those cruise patches from Task force 77, 95, etc. How do you date these patches and were any of them created during the Korean Conflict? I would love to see some of you post more examples of these and offer any information you might have to help me out. Thanks, Joel

InchonJoe, I missed your post it was a while ago but here is a partial answer on this link: http://www.history.navy.mil/colloquia/cch4b.htm

This covers the Vietnam era, but Task Force 77 is the Carrier Task Force in the Pacific, The way to date the ptche s is to research the ship named on the patch to see what era the ship was in or commanded the Task force. Ships rotated in and out as needed and as other duty assignments came along. Sometimes the patch construction can if not identify the era perhaps rule out era's due to construction methods,

I hope this helps
