sigsaye Posted December 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 22, 2013 There were many patches made up by ships or individual departments and divisions to commemorate individual cruises or events. These patches were very short runs in many cases (I had 11 patches made up for my guys on the St. Louis and lost the one I had ) Here is the only one I have, It is from my '73-'74 cruise aboard USS Kitty Hawk, CV-63. Never got any more, not sure why, wish I had now of course, but such is life.

sigsaye Posted December 22, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted December 22, 2013 Cool, there was a Hawk cruise patch I passed on for my second cruise. We went to the Indian Ocean, and were the first carrier into the Persian Gulf in '75 I think it was. We hosted the Shaw of Iran and all that. They made a patch up, "Kirkseys Rangers" (Captain was Capt. Kirksey). I passed on the patch because it was $5. Big money for an E-3 in those days! sigsaye Posted December 23, 2013 Author Share #21 Posted December 23, 2013 Bearmon, that is not a Shangri-La COMM Div patch! It is a Signals Division patch, For the Signalmen. On carriers, the Communications department is divided into separate divisions, CS for signal bridge, CR for radio receivers and CT for radio transmitters (CR & CT Divisions are made up of Radiomen). So, the scope of this patch is even smaller than if it had been for the entire Communications Department. As a retired Signalman, this is a really cool patch. Also, my Father was serving aboard Shangri-La when was borne

InchonJoe Posted February 12, 2014 Share #25 Posted February 12, 2014 Hello All: New member here. I collect Korean War Era patches and insignia. I have question about those cruise patches from Task force 77, 95, etc. How do you date these patches and were any of them created during the Korean Conflict? I would love to see some of you post more examples of these and offer any information you might have to help me out. Thanks, Joel
