Listing says they think the pins were replaced, but the edge photos in the listing look like there may have been some casting stubs ground off.

Hopefully they find this thread and cancel or return it. That's a fair amount to be out. Two people probably just saw the word 'Blackinton' and got excited.

I've just received this Glider Pilots wing. I was weary when buying it as I couldn't really determine if it was original or a reproduction.

The wing is a 3" long pin back with a clasp more akin to a foreign made example. It is feintly stamped Silver.

Could I get people's thoughts on it please?

Thanks,

Neil.

Sadly, I would say no. These are probably one of the fake JR Gaunt style wings. Very high quality casting of a real wing, but improperly marked. On tell is the use of SILVER rather than the traditional (and legally required) British hallmarking system.

If you do a search you will find some interesting discussions.

here is one thread:

Thanks, Patrick. I'm guessing late '30s up to WW2?

Is $95 a good price or top dollar for such a wing? I know very little about naval wings.

Do a search for Meyer Metals on this forum.

I think B-17 John said it was trademarked in the 1920's but could have been used much later than that. Rather rare to find NS Meyer and Meyer Metal USN wings, so 95$ isn't a horrible price.

I think it is a great wing, myself. Good going!

Hello,

I can't make my mind up about this wing. Seemingly English but a bit slapdash on the obverse crest. Also not sure about the fixings on the back giving how they're applied. As ever, I'm hyper-critical in my approach to anything I've not encountered before. Can anyone give a view, please?

Patchcollector

I'm not an expert on the theatre made Wings, but I like it.

I've seen a few others with the "supersized" fixings. There may be a thread here with some examples IIRC.
