Identified M1902 Cavalry Dress Uniform

Recommended Posts

Collecting military uniforms is not my main interest but if it's cavalry related..... I've had this set for many years. Everything pictured except the hat is identified to corporal Sidney R. Moskowits. As his dog tag reads, He was a trumpeter Troop M 3rd Cav. All of the insignia are original to the coat. The trousers with the proper yellow musician stripes are identified with his name written in the waistband. Both the coat and trousers are in almost mint condition with one or two pinholes in the trousers. The dress cap is not part of the original set. The bugle insignia is proper but from a different unit.

Best, George

Nice cav uniform with service stripes, even better with an ID. So many of the 1902 Enlisted uniforms are void of ID. It was not a pressing issue like it is today to put your name in your uniform. Nice piece.

Looks like Sidney R. Moskowits, served in the 9th Infantry before going to the 3rd Cavalry. He was discharged in 1911 at Ft. Wingate New Mexico. Originally from New York City. This from the U.S. Army Register of Enlistments.
