ccyooper Posted December 11, 2013 Share #6 Posted December 11, 2013 We had several camps around the area where I grew up in Michigan. This stuff used to be all over but now like WW1/WW2 items it is getting harder to find.
scottiques Posted December 11, 2013 Share #7 Posted December 11, 2013 Neat items--makes sense that they would be issued surplus military gear. The CCC was staffed by US Army personnel and run like a military organization, so it makes sense that the gear would come from the same source. Garandomatic Posted December 11, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 11, 2013 Any possibility to research family that was in the CCC? I have some neat pictures of my great-grandpa, and the story was that he was in the CCC, but he may have been a bit old. Possibly national guard, but I don't know. Racks of '17s, I think, train cars of the old Renault-designed tanks, etc.
ccyooper Posted December 12, 2013 Share #9 Posted December 12, 2013 I expect that if you search the web you will find a way to search CCC rolls. If your GGF was age 18-25 between 1933 and 1939 he could have been in the CCC's. I think because of the war the ages were 17-23 between 1940-42 when organization disbanded. Reserve Army officers were in charge of the camps and most of the equipment was appropriated from the military supplies prior to the war effort.
