Very interesting Nick, good stuff, here's two images I recently posted of the insignia on the 5th Inf Div liners from the period from one of their Basic Graduation Yearbooks, (the 5th Inf Dov being only a Training Division back then), note only the one photo we see the White Border, looks like a device of something in center of diamond, maybe regimental number, can't tell, the other are either a stencil or a decal without the White border, hard to tell and with other photos from this particular yearbook the Non White Border is seen on the liners.

Thanks for sharing! What year is your book from? I've got a 5th ID yearbook from 1956 along with a few photos/slides from 1955/1956. I've looked through the book and the photos I had on hand and I didn't see a clear example of a helmet or liner with the 5th ID insignia. Most of the marked helmets/liners I saw were ranks, names, or companies. Interestingly enough I did spy a medic helmet being worn while going through grenade training.

It is a July 1953 Yearbook for the 1st Battalion 11th Infantry, these guys started Basic and I assume Infantry AIT in this same unit in March.

That there is American, a Cadre Liner or maybe a Student worn one for a unit of the Leadership Preparation Course at some unknown post, since the colors are Red and Yellow either Field Artillery/Anti Aircraft or Ordnance, the 9 on the discs maybe is the Class.

That patch by the way as seen painted on the front of the liner was always worn sewn to a Brassard, far as we can tell was not a shoulder patch in the strictest sense.

PS, Might throw the Transportation Corps into the mix as their Branch Colors are Brick Red and Yellow.

NCO ACADEMY Insignia, Note the Gold/Blue on the Left/Right......the inverse of the Blue/Gold examples you posted but a match for the helmet liner painted insignia.

Do you have a date when these were worn, looks very current.

I received these from the Sergeant Major at NCOAH East Range (Schofield Barracks) in the 1990's where they wore them as pocket badges.

It looks of vintage, so a 50s or 60s worn item.

I bought this one while ago from a French seller when looking for a liner I could match with a Schlueter front seam who has an over-painted NCO bar but when it arrived I decided it would be a waste to hide it: Westinghouse WW2, unfortunately incomplete, according to my research (please correct if wrong information) from 2nd Medium Tank Battalion, 103rd Armor Regiment (ex. 628th Heavy Tank Battalion), 28th Infantry Division

And two more liners I want to share with you, both from units deployed to Germany. First one belongs to 793rd MP Battalion, VII. Corps, USAREUR. Name and rank of previous owner "PFC Melvin" is written in it. The unit markings are painted, the blue and red stripes are taped. Sweatband has 1969 as contract date. Overall condition not the best:

Second one comes from Army School, Europe. Rank (Staff Sergeant) and stripe are painted (over another layer with another rank insignia and a stripe in lighter blue), school insignia on both sides are decals. Sweatband from 1969. Unfortunately the paint is coming off and I don't have any good idea how to stop or at least slow down the process:

The final one I am not sure about if it fits in here because it comes from the Civilian Support Group. Markings are for 4022nd Gd Bn (26th Spt Gp Heidelberg?)- The liner is dated 1976. Came with an early post WW2 McCord helmet (M 1A) and a Woodland cover dated 1980. Had a name in it once but unfortunately over-painted...

Emerging from a Vail of Red Smoke, troops of the 45th Inf Div during training at Ft Sill OK late-sh 1967. Thunderbirds Decaled liners all around, as are M1 Rifles typical of the National Guard then.

i'm pretty sure given the color of the chevrons anyways

Korea era perhaps? USMC Reserve component?, though the USMC were not in the habit of doing their liners up in this manner, not like the Army, which would make this unique, I wonder what unit or base.

i'd agree with that. liner is a late westinghouse with 1945 dated headband, so late 40's early 50's i'd figure. it would be interesting to see others done up like this, but maybe the owner just had an artistic eye, and wanted something special. I know other speculation was a bit more "merry" if you know what i mean
