Marked Helmet Liners, The Unsung Hero Of The M-1

Thanks for the info, had a feeling it'd be a bit of a unique one when I bought it. Any idea if the West Point one was actually ceremonial and worn by cadets, or a fantasy piece maybe by an alum? Asked a friend who's a cadet, he said they no longer have them. The Black Knight shields are lopsided (one is before the chinstrap stud rivet, one's after – heck, even those seem to look weird) so I wonder if that would've been permissible on the parade field.

That one, the West Point one, bears the decals for Cadre. These being the faculty of the academy, there are two different patches worn there, one for Cadre, these being the faculty of the academy, and one for cadets, seen here

Liner like this one, would of been worn by one of the Regular Army people assigned to the academy during range and drills etc, like at Camp Buckner, time period in the very late 50s (When the old White with Red border and Blue helmet is replaced) through the 60s maybe into the very early 80s.

Great info patches, got another postwar beauty for you to decode (must be an NCO school helmet, but dont know meaning of colors/what wouldve been at the front with those yellow remnants):

The Infantry School, Ft Benning Georgia, circa 1960s-70s, seems to once have had a majors oak leaf decal on it.

What do you make of this square marking? Has a fairly pink color and is on both sides. All of the rest of the liner is varnished but some care was taken to avoid varnishing over this mark (the varnish comes slightly over the edge)

Two here, this one, Drill Sergeants and Cadre Instructors of the 3rd Armored Division at Ft Knox Kentucky in 1949 when the division was a training division, here we see two triangles, one, the dark one, probably Dark Green with White border and lettering seems to give the Combat Command, the other one, probably the reverse White with Dark Green border and lettering, gives sub unit, here on one or two of them, 83rd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron of them (the Armored Force branch colors, Dark Green and White, the solid Yellow of Armor not out yet, as the branch wasn't established just yet).

And this October 1957 photo, see's the 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment and the marked liners they wore at that time. Photo taken at Yorktown Virginia during the a celebration of the Franco-American victory there, in attendance is the Ambassador of France, Hervé Alphand, who takes the salute of the regiment. (Alphand was a major Free French Gaullist in WWII).

Stenciled name with rank

Right, Rank and name. Hard really to say what marking is, probably some kind of unit tack mark, unit unknown.

Now just one more question, is the liner a WWII or Korean War Era, WWII would be a Khaki HBT suspension the Korean War OD HBT. Not that a WWII era liner wouldn't of been worn in the 50s, they where, just would like a frame of reference with period of liner and or the nape strap and sweatband if those are present.

Here's the inside. Later war construction Capac with blackened brass washers. Headband has green hardware with green steel buckle. I added the chinstrap.

Webbing. Nape strap is dated 1953. Crusty OD7 head band with unsewn tail, can't make out date.

Liner is marked Westinghouse and CAPAC. Three dates 1951, 1952 and 1953 in crown.

Here is a Cadet Liner from the mid 1960s, I imagine Black with Yellow Band and a USMA Cap Device, the type was worn by Upperclassmen, I believe during Beast Week, as this K Det is being Braced, not that they didn't get Braced afterwards by all and sundry who were senior to them .

Firestone liner, unfortunately there is no suspension inside,

First Army marking on the right and a flaming bomb in yellow and red on the left.

Hello guys,

My WW2 20th Armored Division Westinghouse liner. It's ID'd and came with a couple of the soldier's docs so I was able to research him.

Thanks,

James

The Rooster

6 I moved the back end of the head band carefully.... down to its proper position on the harness. It was attached to the nape strap!
