Came across this period portrait photo today while going through photo files.

An unnamed Captain of 2nd ID which I assume was probably taken post-war.

He wears a small 2nd ID decal and painted Captain bars on his helmet liner.

Great foto, too bad there's no name for him,, looks like he's got 7 Big Hearts, a real survivor.

A Sergeant Merlin C. Tubbs of the 31st Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division wears his unit decaled liner in 1957, believe he was in HHB's Searchlight Platoon/Section.

Good question. Unfortunately I am having a difficult time identifying its origin. There are markings on the suspension but it's extremely faded. The previous owner was stationed in England during the war and served as Lieut Commander in the Navy but I dont believe this was his liner. He was a famous socialite and was an avid collector of militaria, much of which was passed down to him through his ancestors. His great grandfather was James Henry Van Alen Brig. General in the civil war.

This is my favourite liner. It's the only marked one I have, so far. It's a Westinghouse with a painted full bird colonel insignia. At first I thought the insignia was a decal but closer inspection learned that it was painted and covered with laquer. There is also an overpainted 22 Army Corps insignia visible on the right side of the liner.

I recently posted this in the DI's forum as an unknown help topic. But Working on a Tip PMed me, it turns out the Decal is for the 33rd Infantry, the DI is inside a shield, which is non standard, as the DI decals of this type are a normally large versions of the DI, which made it obscure and unfamiliar. Photo taken at least before 1956, and if photo taken after December 1954, then when the unit was a part of the recently reactivated Americal Division, May 26 1956, the date the 33rd Infantry is inactivated.

A Master Sergeant of the 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, liner lacquered with the Big Red One and 1948 Reg Master Sergeant Decals, date is unknown, would of course have to be after 1948 and before 1952, a little breathing space through 1952 as the 1948 ranks are replaced by the large chevrons, but were seen now and again after this. Of note, he is not wearing the double discs on the lower lapels, they go out too in late 1951, thus the 1952 theory.

Very interesting picture. Looks like he has belt and ammo pouch died black and either a unit or Army insignia on his holster flap. You can also see he has the green leadership bars on his DUI's

Yeah I don't know what that device is on the holster flap. Also on close examination, it appears there is no rank decal below the 1st Div decal, it's just glare, which interestingly has the appearance of the small 48 rank.

Hello everyone!

Here is my humble contribution: a liner made by Westinghouse in 1944. This rough liner was found near my village, Palazzo Canavese, a little village in north-west of Italy, a few km near the towm of Ivrea, where in 1945 the US Army arrived to witness the surrender of the Nazi-Fascists. The town of Ivrea is near the town in the Alps of Aosta and Torino.

Returning to the liner, it was found in a barn, where the American troops camped in 1945. This liner is in poor conditions, sadly the farmer who owned it painted it with an horrible orange and green watermelon-style paint ... :(

With great patience and attention I managed to remove this paint, bringing back the little original paint left to light. To my surprise, in the part at the back of the neck, I discovered that painted in yellow there is what I believe was the name of the soldier who owned it.

Also inside there is an incision, in the front part of the edge, I can not understand however in which direction it can make sense ...Could it be a part of the owner's serial number?
