WWII Cot and more

Recommended Posts

It's been a decent week for finds....I'll start with the largest - a WWII Army cot that was sent to us from the East Coast...haven't really looked for any markings, but overall it's in good shape, and still has both stretch bars. It looks lighter in the picture than what it really is.

Next up are some WWII DUIs and a PUC I found at a local "antique" store. The woman ran one by the same name several years ago, and I always found things there, so when I saw the same name/different location I had to stop. And sure enough it was her. Almost all her itms have crazy prices on them, but then she gives you a sizeable "discount" so the price is more in line with reality...and she will talk you to death about what a great, rare find these are, and she's giving you such a deal and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on...well, you get the idea. I find that when I finally get out to the parking lot I'm either mentally exhausted and/or angry......any-hoo...here's what I picked from all the "treasure":

This aircraft recognition card came from an antique mall, and surprisingly wasn't waaaaaaay over priced.

This Model 1881 helmet plate came from the same antique mall, and again was reasonably priced.

There's a slight chance I might have too much stuff (Hahahahahahahahah! I can't believe I said that! That's lunacy! "Too much" stuff.....whew, that was funny!). I picked up this GAR badger from the Dayton encampment, only to find I already have an attributed one...on the other hand, this one still has it's ribbon with it...so, it'll be in the for sale section tonight.

This post card is from here back in our glory days when we were the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. it shows out grotto, which is about 100 yards from my building. We've got a volunteer who's working to have the place restored to something like it used to be...

As promised, here's a picture of the Grotto from roughly the same spot today...restoration work has stopped for the winter, but it's like night and day already..over the years the place had become overgrown and pretty nasty...it'll look great when everything is done next spring.

I don't know why they picked pink, but it's always been that color...even the post cards from the 1890's show it that color. I hate the color, but on the upside, it's the only building that color on the whole campus, so it's easy to tell people how to find us - just look for the 3-story ugly pink building...
