kriegsmodell Posted December 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2013 Here is an example of an original OSS Veteran Lapel Pin and associated documents from my collection. These items came as part of a much larger OSS grouping that I was fortunate to acquire many years ago. The lapel pin is very well made with an obverse of red & white enamel and gold metal edging. The reverse features a roller buckle pin-back and is maker marked A. E. Co. Utica NY with a patent number. The pin is approximately 11mm or 1/2 inch in size. The grouping also contained the original documents to include a letter from Major General William J. Donovan with details on how the lapel pin could be obtained and the World War II OSS Service Certificate. Lastly, there is a large two sided document featuring comments from General Donovan and G. Howard Buxton made at the 28 September 1945 farewell gathering of OSS employees and the text of a letter from President Truman in appreciation of the OSS. Additional information regarding these items (including the text of General Donovan's letter) can be located on Les Hughes' insigne site. This document is slightly larger that 8.5 by 14 inches and is referenced as an enclosure in the General Donovan letter.

kriegsmodell Posted December 1, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted December 1, 2013 More detailed close-up view of the obverse side of the lapel pin. Note the small chips and scratches to the enamel surface which indicate (at least to me) that this pin was worn with pride by it's original recipient. Hope you enjoy the pics!
