Bruce Gunn Posted May 4, 2008 #1 Posted May 4, 2008 Hello, Can anybody help me identify this helmet. The helmet has a strange early style interior and is quite deep... Any suggestions???? Thanks Bruce
Bob Hudson Posted May 4, 2008 #3 Posted May 4, 2008 That style of deep bowl helmet was often used for Civil Defense. Here's one with an Air Raid Warden decal from a thread at http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...showtopic=14374 Here's one I found that has the same kind of web suspension. Who knows how it ended up with the Marine Corps chevron painted on it?
Mr.Jerry Posted May 4, 2008 #4 Posted May 4, 2008 Its a US Civil Defense helmet from the 1940's. Sometimes you see them with decals. They all had this style of rayon lining. I would think maybe they got these surplussed when they weren't used on the M1 helmet liners anymore.
Bruce Gunn Posted May 4, 2008 Author #5 Posted May 4, 2008 Hi All, Thanks for your quick answers, I really appreciate it. Does anybody have any ideas of what type of value one of these helmet's are worth? Thanks Bruce
BOLO Posted May 4, 2008 #6 Posted May 4, 2008 your helmet is in poor condition and does not have any insignia value is about $5.00 not really worth much, unless it had original insignia and was in better shape it was commonly used as a ship yard worker's hard hat
