Hello,

 

Can anybody help me identify this helmet. The helmet has a strange early style interior and is quite deep...

 

Any suggestions????

That style of deep bowl helmet was often used for Civil Defense.

Here's one I found that has the same kind of web suspension. Who knows how it ended up with the Marine Corps chevron painted on it?

Its a US Civil Defense helmet from the 1940's. Sometimes you see them with decals.

They all had this style of rayon lining. I would think maybe they got these surplussed when they weren't used on the M1 helmet liners anymore.

Does anybody have any ideas of what type of value one of these helmet's are worth?

your helmet is in poor condition and does not have any insignia

 

value is about $5.00

 

not really worth much, unless it had original insignia and was in better shape

 

it was commonly used as a ship yard worker's hard hat
