B229 Posted November 26, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 26, 2013 Can't get better pic's, sorry. Top: "small first-aid dressing" A E Halperin Middle:packet first-aid field brown dressing" Guild Foundation Bottom : "first-aid packet US gov't" no name and blank on the back. I hope that helps I'll go in reverse order: Bottom: The standard Carlisle Dressing in the brass or bronze "sardine can" packet was introduced in 1940. An envelope of sulfa was added during 1941 and the backs stamped to indicate it's presence. So, your's is 1940-1941. Middle: The Brown Field Dressing in a foil packet was introduced in 1943 and became the standard, replacing the metal packet. It originally came in a two-part cardboard outer box, but they are often missing. Top: The Carlisle Dressings in the waxed cardboard box, if I remember right, were introduced in 1940 along side the metal packet, but were intended for use in first aid kits, rather than the individual M1910/M1924/M1942 pouch. I could be wrong about that though.
