Sabrejet Posted November 23, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 23, 2013 The distinctive HS-23/ HS-33 headsets were widely used in the USAAF in WW2, Both shared the leather covered HB-7 adjustable headband. I've had a mint "HS-23" for a number of years....only it wasn't! I recently discovered this when reading forum member Mathieu/ Blue Leader's excellent new book on ETO flight gear! (Merci Mathieu! ) Apparently, the HS-23s utilized R-14 receivers with a black PL-54 jack-plug. HS-33s utilized ANB-H-1 receivers and a red PL-354 jack-plug. When I examined my "HS-23s" I found they had R-14s but with the red jack-plug....so therefore the wrong combination! However, I was fortunate enough to pick up a pair of ANB-H-1s so I simply swapped them around. Job done! I now have two "minty" HS-33s! Below...R-14s in place. Sabrejet Posted November 23, 2013 Author Share #13 Posted November 23, 2013 I have the same problem, Ian... Yes Johan...when I posted them originally, several members added comments that theirs were slowly degrading too. It's obviously a chemical reaction within the sponge foam compound, combined with the passage of time.
Blue Leader Posted November 23, 2013 Share #14 Posted November 23, 2013 Ear cups used with HS-33 by the AAF were the rubber cups MX-41/AR.
