Reading the recent story about who killed Bin Laden made me realize just how much it mirrored this shoot down of Yamamoto.

First there is the Pearl Harbor attack (911 attack) followed by the high level intelligence work to track down the mastermind behind the attack, Yamamoto (Bin Laden). Then there is the long distance, high risk surprise attack on Yamamoto's plane (Bin Laden's compound) that results in his death. Finally there is the secrecy behind the attack by the P-38 pilots (SEAL Team 6) and then, ultimately, some participants coming forward to describe the attack only to lead to questions as to who actually killed Yamamoto (Bin Laden). Was it pilot Tom Lanphier (SEAL member Matt Bissonnette) or was it actually pilot Rex Barber (SEAL member Rob O'Neill)?

The string of details in his account are remarkable considering the intensity of the situation at hand. What an amazing memory. Thanks for posting.

Amazing find. The feeling & emotions those went through the instant they saw that plane burst into flames and then crash. The final get back for the attack on Pearl Harbor. And ROB, dead on comparison to both missions.

I'm researching the Y mission for a book and would like access/assistance to more diaries/letters like Jacobson's that address: 1) the mission and aftermath; 2) life of fighter pilot on G up to 4/43 mission; the other pilots on the mission, most notably John Mitchell. Thanks, RDL

Here is a video interview of Jack Jacobson that his son just posted about the Yamamoto Mission. Great that his son did this before Jack passed just a few years after the interview.
