Sjef Posted November 16, 2013 #28 Posted November 16, 2013 No need to upgrade this one. Top of the bill! Well done, Ian!! Thanks for sharing.
littlebuddy Posted November 16, 2013 #30 Posted November 16, 2013 Ian my i share my B6 which is "modified " on your post ?
littlebuddy Posted November 16, 2013 #32 Posted November 16, 2013 Thankyou Ian heres my "modified" B6 there are 2 small holes what have been made to accept where the receivers would have sat ,and also the press studs for the mask have been added If you look at the photo of the label you can see the previous label has been over sewn with the B6 label
Sabrejet Posted November 16, 2013 Author #35 Posted November 16, 2013 Nice "redskin" Carl. Sometimes, small holes were cut into the sides of shearling helmets facilitate the use of a separate headset rather than the permanent addition of sewn-on leather cups to hold receivers. See one of my pics above for an example.
Sabrejet Posted November 16, 2013 Author #36 Posted November 16, 2013 Carl...re the double label...one of my flying helmets has a white cotton label which is simply stamped "EX LARGE"...but there's the usual woven white/black rayon label also. I wonder if your white cotton label was of the same type, even though the woven one is also marked with the size...but no contract details?!
littlebuddy Posted November 16, 2013 #37 Posted November 16, 2013 have you a pic of it Ian and the size of the white label so i can compare ??
littlebuddy Posted November 16, 2013 #39 Posted November 16, 2013 Roughly what size is that label Ian ???
Sabrejet Posted November 16, 2013 Author #40 Posted November 16, 2013 Questions...questions....so many questions! Approximately 3 x 1.5 cms.
littlebuddy Posted November 16, 2013 #41 Posted November 16, 2013 thank you Ian ! you are most kind !!
Sabrejet Posted November 16, 2013 Author #42 Posted November 16, 2013 thank you Ian ! you are most kind !! You're most welcome sir!
littlebuddy Posted November 16, 2013 #43 Posted November 16, 2013 The white label measures 50mm x 30mm if that helps anyone to work out what it could be !! LB
Blue Leader Posted November 17, 2013 #44 Posted November 17, 2013 Hi Ian and Carl, I think that white cotton label was used because the helmet is a experimental model or pre-model. A B-6 flying helmet made in red skin (horse leather) is unusual and very uncommon. Mathieu
Sabrejet Posted November 18, 2013 Author #45 Posted November 18, 2013 Horse-hide? Very interesting....merci Mathieu!
