uberguido Posted November 17, 2013 Share #151 Posted November 17, 2013 this is an amazing collection. my great uncle Tony Pelligrino was either 166th or 165th (thinking 165th) and I had the privilege of viewing his photos from the war. when the story got to the end, much like this one, it had some very dark images that stuck with him for the rest of his days. If you ever have issues preserving the originals, talk to the Holocaust Museum in DC, that's where all mine from Tony went, they get preserved and researched by grad students, rather than becoming lost to conditional issues. again, great collection, very nice to see, thank you. I have a friend who is a Holocaust survivor and we are going to ask the family to have them preserved. When I met her it reminded me of the photos that Bill had shown me. That's why I contacted Bill's wife to get what she had left of his collection. I hope to meet Bill's daughter and Grandson to see if they will also help in my endeavour. Let's hope no one forgets. uberguido Posted November 17, 2013 Share #154 Posted November 17, 2013 Absolutely, as I said the holocaust museum is a good one. I had a few photos of some summary executions done on the camp grounds, the unit that liberated the camp basically hanged people they found nearby and though responsible. Turned out to be a rather large historical find as there is no photographic evidence let alone official talks about having done it from the army. my mentor at my university (graduate school in holocaust studies) took them for initial research and then the holocaust museum along with the Shoah foundation really got on top of it to get them preserved. all of the pics I got from uncle tony (minus one of him I kept) are all down there for digital scanning, preservation and research. good programs, I can get you my mentors contact info in Pennsylvania if your interested.
