Baron3-6 Posted November 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2013 Hi All- Bought a solid B-15 jacket a few weeks back with the intent of replacing the knit parts (they were litterally in tatters and not even static display worthy). Anyways I found this item posted on ebay, thought I'd review it for the members here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251373734361 Construction: Good. The cuff pieces do not have seams. Color: The picture on th auction makes them look more toward OD3 or tanker jacket cuffs. The one's that arrived are more of a true AAF medium green, fairly strong. They are not the 50's-present USAF sage. When compared to scraps of the original knit I cut off they are maybe a hair off - not so much to worry with...I'm sure even with dye variations and manufacturers the war time ones varied a bit as well. Price: An offer of $20 + shippping was accepted and very reasonable. The order arrived from Hong Kong within 2 weeks. We'll see how they tun out once I get a lady here to install them on the jacket. I know that there are probably museum-grade repro knit pieces on the market for the choice collector, but for the money I'm pretty happy being a guy who takes pride in preserving something and not spending the next paycheck. Sabrejet Posted November 11, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 11, 2013 Actually, they look pretty good. Replacing shredded cuffs / knitwear can transform a jacket. Britain's Eastman Leather Co used to offer such a repair service and I had a couple of similarly damaged flight jackets refurbished by them. Obviously, as pros they did a perfect job and I was well-pleased with the outcome...but it wasn't cheap! Good luck with your restoration! Be sure to post some pics of the end result.
