redjoshman Posted November 10, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2013 Hello Everyone,I have a question for you guys. The history of US Army Issue Sweaters from prior to World War I through World War I has been well documented:http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/39625-us-army-knit-clothing-from-1911-to-1918/ And the history of US Army Sweaters after 1943 and the adoption of the M1943 "Five-Button" Sweater is similarly also well known. However it appears next to nothing is known about the sweaters the US Army issued to its troops between 1918-1943.The only clue to information I know of is this sweater which was apparently manufactured to a 1933 spec. in 1941.Does anyone know of any other pattern of sweaters from this time period? Other original examples that either have contract information or manufacturing information between 1918-1943?P.S.: I know there are pictures wearing Sweater Vests, Crewneck Sweaters, and V-Neck Sweaters during that 1941-1943 time period however for the purpose of this thread we are going to assume those are all private-purchase/american red cross type sweaters until information is provided showing that sweaters of those types were officially issued by the US Army. Thanks,Josh
Johan Willaert Posted November 10, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2013 Josh, Both a sleeveless and V-Neck sweater were officially available from QM Dept prior to the 1943 5 button model... I need to get them out of storage for pictures of QM labels but you can see them on these pictures... Also included is the Knit Shirt...
