wartimecollectables.com Posted November 10, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2013 Though not a South Carolinian by birth (a Midwestern Southern Illinoisan), my fascination with the Mexican War of 1847 has led me to study the South Carolina Mexican War medal and it's history. I highly recommend Jack Meyer's excellent book on the South Carolina in the Mexican War. I recently acquired a couple Palmetto medals from a local collection. Though I'd love to keep them all, I could only afford to put this one on the shelf! Sgt. Henry E. Scott served with the Richland District (Columbia, SC) Company of the Palmetto Regiment and after the war was a founding member of the Palmetto Veteran's Association. His medal is in it's original case and comes with an ambrotype of the Sergeant in civilian attire!

cutiger83 Posted November 11, 2013 Share #7 Posted November 11, 2013 Andrew, Beautiful medal! I really like the engraving. The book about SC in the Mexican War sounds very interesting. I will have to add it to my list. ...Kat
