Mark, once again you've got some great unusual chevrons there. Are these the ones that were in the lot with the bullion on blue felt Korea tab and some 24th ID patches? If not, they're identical to the ones from the auction that I saved photos of.

 

I suspect them to be Japanese made.

 

White rayon stripes on a BLACK twill background are common of the Korean War era. I am under the assumption that they are all Japanese made, bullion or not. They are NOT the WWII style rayon on dark blue. The base material is indeed black, and I think these were used in between and during the small 1948 chevrons and the later 1951 chevrons.

Perhaps made a little earlier, in the 1946 to 1948 occupation period? remembering that while the 1948 regs type did come out at that time, it took time for all EMs to get them and wear them, and also a few never wore the new small reg ones, prefering the older large types, but these tended to be senior NCOs.
