bobgee Posted October 29, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 29, 2013 Unusual to see the "Ruptured Duck" on an officer's uniform.....any branch. Officers came under different uniform regulations than enlisted men. Great photo. Thanks for posting. Bobgee

Ricardo Posted October 29, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted October 29, 2013 This hero pilot was a reserve officer and I have seen other Ruptured Ducks in other WW2 Army officers uniforms. Was there a rule paw honorable discharge for who were not career officers?
Ricardo Posted October 29, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted October 29, 2013 DeBlanc enlisted in the Naval Reserve (USNR) as a seaman second class on 29 July 1941 and and when he received the MOH he was First Lieutenant... Having joined as a seaman will he received for using Ruptered Duck? Btw, DeBlanc was discharged from active duty on December 31, 1945. He returned to his home in St. Martinville, Louisiana, and was assigned to the 8th Marine Corps Reserve District, later serving as commander of Marine Air Reserve Group 18. DeBlanc retired from the Marine Corps Reserve as a Colonel on July 1, 1972.
atb Posted October 29, 2013 Share #8 Posted October 29, 2013 The "Ruptured Duck" was for all servicemen and women, officers or enlisted who were honorably discharged.

Agree......for the Honorably Discharged lapel button for civilian attire but usually not worn on the uniform after discharge. Enlisted men were granted permission to continue to wear their uniforms after discharge.....for up to 30 days. The sew-on "Ruptured Duck" insignia indicated they were no longer on active duty.
